20,000 pictures ... not so bad ... and something new!

Published on 11-05-2008 by Curufinwe in News | Permanent link | 1 comment(s)

Here we are ... 20,000 photos on the website ...

It took us 10 months to reach 10,000 pictures ... and only 5 moonths to have another 10,000!
Well done to you all; first for your faithfulness, and we hope that Pictaero.com reaches your expectations; then, for your photos, because what is at the core of Pictaero.com is picture sharing; finally, for your comments, since they are a great reward for us!
You must know that we are a team composed of aviation fans and we spend most of our free time dealing with Pictaero.com; So, seeing more and more members seing more and more pictures really touches us. We feel that what we are doing is at least quite useful!

Now, we will expect the 50,000th photo before we can congratulate ourselves! wink
We will do as much as we can to improve Pictaero.com from what you tell us.

Oh, I have nearly forgotten about the 20,000th picture which was accepted...
It is an Air Berlin 757-200, taken at Zurich airport. The photographer is Pascal S.
757-200 - HB-IHS
For this occasion, we have decided to launch our own "Pictaero shop (only in French for the moment) ... You can find T-shirts, caps or stickers ...
For the photographer who was lucky enough to have the 20,000th picture online, we are offering him either a T-shirt or a cap. We do hope he can send a photo of him wearing it! wink

Many thanks to you all.

Pictaero's Screeners' Choice - Monday October 20th 2008

Published on 10-21-2008 by Curufinwe in Screeners' choices | Permanent link | 0 comment(s)

Hi everybody! First of all, sorry for last Monday ... I totally forgot about writing the article!
You may have noticed that we are close from reaching 20,000 pictures on the website; I would lie to you if I told you we were not preparing something for the occasion.
But before that, we still have to show you the team's choice for this week!

Let's start then! First of all, Swiss Air Force's F/A-18. Many thanks to Marc-André V. for those awesome shots (the steam on the wings ... WOW ...)!
F/A-18C - J-5008 F-A-18C - J-5007

Then, we will see the airliners: from an ATR-42 by night to an un painted A330 (in tests) intended to be for Avianca.
CRJ-900ER - EC-JZT ATR-42-300 - F-HBSO
737-500 - EW-250PA A330-200 - F-WWYI 737-300 - F-GIXC
Super King Air 200 - OO-SKL MD-81 - YR-MDS

Then, before I show you the rest, I would like to put a picture taken at Tours, France in 1970: a French Air Force Mystère IV-A, which is not so common!
Mystère IV-A - 25

Eventually, what we have left is the photos taken at air shows; among the shots, you will see my favourite photo of the week: a sepia shot of a Corsair and her pilot.
F4U-4 Corsair - F-AZVJ C-47A Skytrain - EC-EJB
PT-13 Kaydet - N81172 EC-665 HAP Tigre - 2002 SA-316 Alouette III - V-278
MS-315 - F-AZAH Alpha Jet E - F-TERN

We do hope that you enjoyed this week's choice. Do not hesitate to leave comments telling us what your favourite pictures are.
See you very soon; first with an article on the 20,000th photo, then for our next weekly Screeners' Choice.

Pictaero's Screeners' Choice - Monday October 6th 2008

Published on 10-07-2008 by Curufinwe in Screeners' choices | Permanent link | 0 comment(s)

For this week, we have chose a sample of Thomas B.'s old planes photos, taken for instance at the Duxford Air Show, in the United Kingdom. The team has chosen some of his pictures unanimously! Congratulations!
Lysander - G-AZWT C-53D Skytrooper - LN-WND
Waco UPF-7 - F-AZLC B-17G - F-AZDX

Amazingly, we also have two photos of helicopters! It is rare enough to notice it!
The first one is a "Dauphin" belonging to the the French Navy, and taken by night, therefore showing a special effect; the second one is smaller and completely yellow!
SA-360 Dauphin - 157 R-44 Raven - G-CEST

Let's continue with the airliners and alike (such as a French E-3F Sentry). No very large aircraft such as 747s and A380s today. We can see here one of AirAsia's A320 at dusk, a very colourful Air Bashkortostan (yes, Bashkortostan ... I wrote it properly!!) 757 or one of Air Méditerranée's A321 being parked.
757-200 - EI-LTO A319 - HB-JZJ A320-200 - F-WWBB
737-700 - G-EZJK A321-200 - F-GYAJ E-3F Sentry - 203

Our choice is now over. We hope you enjoyed our selection. See you next week for our weekly Screeners' Choice.

Here comes our choice for the week:
First of all, here are a few pictures about smaller planes. Among those, a Yak-3 and two close-ups on a Cirrus SR-20 and a Piper PA-28.
Yak-3 - 4 Cirrus SR-20 - F-HADD Piper PA-28 - F-BUUI

Then, you can see a French Air Force Alpha Jet ...

This is where we come to the airliners, with great shots!
Among others, Qantas's first A380, one of Kingfisher's many A340s, Triple Sevens, a DC-10 at dusk, etc ...
CRJ-200LR - S5-AAF A380-800 - F-WWSK
Fokker 70 - F-GLIT DC-10F - Z-ALT 777-200 - HZ-AKD

That's what we had in our basket today! See you soon for our next weekly Screeners' Choice.

Pictaero's Screeners' Choice - Monday September 8th 2008

Glad to have you back on Mondays!
I guess you will enjoy our choice this week! It is varied and there are many photos that were chosen, although nothing has changed since I last wrote an article: airliners are still the majority!
I suggest we start with pictures of the first A380 that Qantas will receive on September 19th. Both photos belong to the same photographer, but were taken on two different days. However, they just look the same! Two differences can be spotted though: the weather was better on August 30th and the registration is different (For the photo flight, the final registration - VH-OQA - had been put onto the aircraft)!
A380-800 - F-WWSK A380-800 - VH-OQA

let's change size now: here are a F-8 Crusader and a Mirage III on static display as well as a Yak-18, ready to fly. Check out the Fouga Magister being towed ... what a weird way of having a plane take off! wink
F-8P Crusader - 10 Mirage III - J-2332 Yak-18 - HB-RCX
Mirage 2000C - 4947 CM-170 Magister

Eventually, here are the airliners that I promised you earlier on. My personal choice went to this Dornier Do-328 Jet that I find particularly attractive. Too bad a longer version did not enter into production ...
Aside from that, you can see a Continental 757-200, an Air France A340-300 and Avianca's very first A330-200!
A330-200 - N948AC Do328-300 Jet - HB-AEU
A340-300 - F-GLZH 757-200 - N17105

That is all for today! The next article will then be on September 15th. I'll see you on next Monday for our next weekly Screeners' Choice.
