A320-200 - F-WWDZ A380-800 - F-WWEA

5000 already!

Here we are! Since Pictaero was launched in August 2007, we have hosted your pictures! The database now has over 5000 pictures online! We achieved a lot of things and we will keep on offering our members more capabilities and functions in the months to come. To celebrate this new stage in our growing, I have asked the whole team to tell me about their favourite photos. But first of all, I would like to show you the 5000th picture that was accepted. It was sent by Marc-A. Veillard:
737-800 - CN-RNZ

Marc-A. has actually chosen a picture of Singapore Airlines' first A380:
A380-800 - 9V-SKA
Marc-A. explains his choice, "It was a historical moment for Airbus and Singapore Airlines, that was the first A380 to be used in commercial flights and is ready for her ferry flight. The picture is nice on a technical point of view."

Vincent chose a picture of Concorde, taken by Jean-Philippe Lemaire:
Concorde - F-BTSD
Vincent says that he chose that photo because, "with such a cloudy sky, the picture shows one of the most wonderful elements of the supersonic plane which has impressed a whole generation of plane-lovers."

Simon prefered a picture of an A380 (yet another one!!!):
A380-800 - F-WWJB

Guillaume chose a picture that blends two of his passions; civil and military aviation, "In addition, my first dream was to become a pilot in the Air Force. So that photo sums it all up."
A320-200 - F-GKXC

Guilhem got us a wonderful shot, "a beautiful air to air photo of two Russian planes. The reasons for choosing that picture are on the one hand technical (air-to-air and the sunset) and on the other hand specific to the topic: two unusual (Russian) planes and an unusual scenery."
An-2P - F-AZHB

As for myself, I prefered an old aircraft, a F8F:
F8F Bearcat - N700HL
Actually, I have many favourite pictures, such as a Philippine Airlines A330, or a beautiful picture of a DC-2 taken over the wing. I had to make a choice. So, amongst the planes I worship, the Bearcat has a special place in my heart. Quite irrational; The Hellcat and the Wildcat are part of that list too. Here, the picture is rather old, but of good quality. That's why I chose it.
Still, I can't resist showing you the DC-2 with an old KLM colour scheme. Many thanks to Quentin for that photo!
DC-2 - N39165

Many thanks to you all! Now, our next step is to reach 10,000 photos as soon as possible! That's our greatest hope!

Sea, Sex and Sun ...

Published on 02-27-2008 by Curufinwe in Send a comment | Permanent link | 0 comment(s)

No, I am not thinking about the summer holidays yet!
Actually, I was surfing through our members' photos on Pictaero when I saw a 747 with a peculiar registration ... F-HLOV. So, I clicked on the airline - Corsair not to mention it - and I noticed that their planes had quite unusual registrations!
Hence Sea, Sex and Sun:
F-HSEA, F-HSEX and F-HSUN
747-400 - F-HSEA 747-400 - F-HSEX 747-400 - F-HSUN
That made my day, and I was quite proud of myself! At least, that was better than my whole day at Toulouse-Blagnac airport waiting for planes that never came!!! laughing

Pictaero's Screeners' Choice - Monday February 25th 2008

Published on 02-25-2008 by Curufinwe in Screeners' choices | Permanent link | 0 comment(s)

Hi everybody!
With over 450 pictures published this week, choosing was difficult! We tried our best to select the happy few, although some very interesting ones could have been chosen too! That is why you can tell us what your favourite photos are! If I get enough feedback from you, I will write a separate article, with the members' choice!

Enough typing ... let's start right now!
As usual, statistically, there is a lot of airliners, but thankfully they are very different as a whole. For other aircraft fans, I shall then begin with a picture of a wonderfully composed Pitts S-2. Many thanks to Jonathan for his shot!
Pitts S-2B - N1326K

Then, once more, many thanks to Alain Michot for his rare pictures and aircraft ... some are so rare that it takes us quite a while to find every detail of what he sends us! wink
KC-97L Stratofreighter - N49548

That's about it for unusual planes.
Airliners now. A Frontier Airlines A320 with a different colour scheme, a Ryanair 737-800 with the same colour scheme as all the others ... an A300 and an A310.
A320-200 - F-WWDT 737-800 - EI-DWF
A300B4 - TC-ACY A310-300 - JY-AGK

Not to forget regional planes (otherwise I might be told off!): a Régional Airlines Fokker 70, a Scandinavian MD-81 and an Air Baltic Avro.
Fokker 70 - F-GLIV MD-81 - OY-KHN Avro RJ-70 - YL-BAL

Eventually, I have kept long haul planes for the end. Between two Boeing 747-400 is a Martinair 767 at Amsterdam airport with lots of KLM tails in the background!
747-400 - JA04KZ 767-300 - PH-MCH 747-400 - PH-BFA

Well, that's all! Thanks to all of you, we are going to reach a new milestone with 5000 pictures online. For that occasion, we will probably publish a special article on the blog ... I do hope it will be very soon!! See you on next Monday then for our weekly Screeners' Choice.

Pictaero's Screeners' Choice - Monday February 18th 2008

Published on 02-18-2008 by Curufinwe in Screeners' choices | Permanent link | 0 comment(s)

Holiday at last (for me at least)! Therefore, I can have some time to write a longer article on the blog and I do hope writing a special article for the 5000th photo online! Our screeners have chosen their favourite pictures within over 350 photos that were accepted last week. I would like to start with a personal choice ... I write the Screeners' Choice every week after all! laughing
So, many thanks to Alain Michot for sharing all his old and rare pictures with us all ... particularly for his pictures of a "Catalina" shown at the Paris Air Show in 1994.
PBY-5A Catalina - VR-BPS

Then, here come the regional airliners, such as Embraer and ATR aircraft.
ERJ-145MP - SP-LGD ATR-72-500 - F-WQNB ERJ-145EU - F-GRGG

Before showing you the larger ones, I had almost forgotten a nice small colourful Beech 1900 and on the contrary a Lockheed Jetstar in a very bad state!
Beech 1900D - F-HBCB Lockheed L-1329 - VP-BLD

There ... now, serious matter! I shall start with an A330 MRTT taken at Toulouse as it landed! Follow a Wizz Air A320 landing too and an Etihad A330 with prefect colours and sharpening! Congratulations to Laurent Faure for such a beautiful shot!
A330-200MRTT - EC-330 A320-200 - F-WWIC A330-200 - A6-EYF

I guess that is all for this time. I hope you enjoyed it. Now, only 800 pictures left before we have 5000 online! So, see you on next Monday with many more photos for our weekly Screeners' Choice.
