2009 Paris Air Show

Published on 06-16-2009 by Curufinwe in Send a comment | Permanent link | 0 comment(s)

The Paris Air Show is opening!
It celebrates its 100th anniversary. In 1909, the first Paris Air Show was organised at the Grand Palais in the centre of Paris. Visitors had been able to watch the Blériot XI fly. It had flown over the Channel two months before that.

A hundred years later, the Blériot XI still flies ... a replica does at least! It is at the air Show to celebrate the centennial.

Regarding what is present this year, Airbus has brought a lot of planes from its range: A320, A321, A300, A340 and A380. ATR has taken a plane too, Boeing has an Air France 777F, Bombardier has brought bizjets and a Q400, Dassault has military and civilian aircraft and Sukhoi its new Superjet 100. There is a lot more to see! Unfortunately, niether the A400M nor the 787 will be there this year ... they haven't even flown yet!

You can also see old aircraft at the Paris Air Show this year. Among others, the Blériot XI, the Bréguet XIV, a Morane-Saulnier MS-406, a P-51 Mustang, a DH-100 Vampire will be on site.

The whole team hopes that you will show us and share a great variety of aircraft pictures taken during the air show. Until Thursday, only "professionals" and the press can get in. From Friday until Sunday though, anybody can enter and roam within the airport. Unfortunately once again, some planes will leave either Thursday or Friday. The manufacturers are not really bothered with the visitors coming for the show ...

Have your cameras and lenses ready then! And let's hope that the weather will be good!

Hi everybody,

This week, our team of screeners has worked very hard and come with a substantial selection of photographs. It is mainly made of commercial aeroplanes since the screeners have chosen no less than ten shots showing various aircraft ranging from the legendary Concorde to the powerful Saab 2000. Just have a look by yourself!!!!

CONC – F-BVFA SB20 – F-GMVB A320 – F-GKHK B744 – F-HSEX A320 – OO-TCJ CL30 – HB-JEB A346 – F-WJKG B762 – EI-DMP B744 – F-GIUF A320 – N665JB

As for the military, we have some pretty interesting stuff. Let's begin with Air Force One paying a visit to France in order for President Obama to attend D-Day commemorations in Normandy. Then, let's continue with all kinds of military aircraft: fighter jets and warbirds performing flight demonstrations and,a Xingu on a training mission among others.

General Aviation has not been forgotten with an Austrian Katana , a Bücker and a Sport Trainer being part of the selection.

That's it for this weekly Screeners' Choice. See you next week!

Hi everybody,
as always, our choice this week is partly composed of airliners, wide-bodies and heavies. Special thanks to Hervé Sifferlin for his wonderful shot of a TuiFly Boeing 737-700 during take-off.

We have also chosen quite a number of shots from various air shows. Summer time is coming, so lots of air shows are being organised these days. Last Saturday, you could attend the air show at La Ferté-Alais as well as AirExpo in Muret, near Toulouse, France. The photographers there took us back some nice pictures: an Avenger, some Hawks including the Red Arrows....
The other photographs were taken elsewhere; in Switzerland and in the UK among others.

That's all for this weekly Screeners' Choice. See you next week!

This week, our screeners' choice is depicting all the aeronautical range. First of all, we have some airliners with an Arik Air Airbus A340-500, an American Airlines Boeing B767-300, a Corsair A330 taking off at dusk, an Air France A319 and a Ryanair Boeing 737-800 leaving the airport at Dinard, in Brittany.

A345 – CS-TFX B763 – N383AA A332 – F-HCAT A319 – F-GPMD B738 – EI-DPR

As for the military, we have warbirds as well as more modern aircraft (Please note that many photos were taken during the Duxford Airshow by David Barrie). Thus, let us begin with a flight of Royal Air Force Spitfires and a B-25 wearing British roundels which are reminiscent of the great sacrifice of the Royal Air Force during World War Two. Then more "recent" airplanes come next, all being in their forties such as the C-160 Transall, flying for the Luftwaffe, the MiG-21 and the American cargo helicopter CH-47 Chinook. Finally, we end this military section with a state-of-the-art rescue helicopter used by dozens of SAR operators around the world, the EC-145 seen here wearing the colours of the French Sécurité Civile.

SPIT – G-IXCC B25 – G-BYDR C160 – 50+45 MG21 – 8030 H47 – ZA670 EC45 – F-ZBPQ

Finally, we've got some interesting general aviation photos we wanted to share with you. The first one represents the Antonov-2 LY-LEI approaching Sion airport. Then, there are photos of the last member of the Breitling fleet, a DC-3 and a Pitts S-2.

AN2 – YL-LEI PTS2 – F-GGPS DC3 – HB-IRJ

That's it for now. I hope you have enjoyed our Weekly Screeners' Choice!! See you next week!!!

After a long break, the weekly selection is back. Unfortunately plenty of great shots released in March and April won’t be part of the screeners’ choice because there are too many of them and it would be very difficult to select only some of them.

Now, let’s see the selection and begin with commercial aviation. We’ve got some heavies: two Boeing 777-200ER belonging to British Airways and Asiana, one of the two A330-200 operated by XL Airways France, the former French subsidiary of the now defunct XL Group shot during a diversion to Brest-Bretagne Airport and a MD-11 of Martinair.

B772 – G-VIIVMD-11 – PH-MCUB772 – HL7732A332 – F-GRSQ

Representing the short haul aircraft category, we have a TU-134 captured in a quite exotic place by TLaurent.

TU134 – RA-65994

Finally, a PC-12 is also present in the selection. However it is in a weird situation and needs some fixing to get back in the air again.

PC-12 – HB-PVG

As for military aviation, our screeners chose two photos: one of the Swiss Acrobatic Team flying F-5 Tiger and the other of a French Air Force Caravelle. This particular aircraft belonged operated for more than 15 years to ETOM 82 “Maine”, a Tahiti-based squadron in charge of linking Polynesian nuclear sites and performing medevac flights for the islanders. Called TOREA, this aircraft operated side by side with two other Caravelle christened MAIRE NUI and TEVA

F-5 – J-3086 SE210 – F-RBPR

To end this selection, a wonderful sunset. See you next week!!!!
